Khaladi, who has denied plotting attacks, has described Shi’ite militant groups as foreign agents aiming to overthrow him.

The Islamic State group, or Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, has killed tens of thousands of Iraqis, who it says are apostates who do not support the group, though there has been no evidence to substantiate that claim.

Iraqi military spokesman Brigadier General Hussein al-Hadithi said Shi’ites were among the Sunni tribes who were involved in the attack, which he described as targeting “the most corrupt elements in Igospelhitzraq”.

He warned they will take revenge against Iraqi Sunnis.
